22-250 Remington TC Encore

Everything You Need to Know!

The TC Encore 22-250 Remington is only compatible with the Encore which is the larger frame, because it handles the higher pressures of cartridges like the 22-250

Factory Ammunition:

  • 40-60 grain factory ammo
  • 30-95 grains if you’re reloading
  • Twist rates of 1-12, for up to 60 grain 1-9 – up to 75 grain bullets.

The cost of factory ammunition is rated as low to medium. You’re looking at around $15 – $35 for a box.

Reloading cost:

Is rated at low. Component availability is high, and small .224″ projectiles are affordable.

Barrel life:

Barrel life for the 22 250 Remington can be somewhat short. It’s going to be shooting a fair amount of powder through a .224″ hole and that is really what dictates the life of the barrel along with high velocity and long strings of fire.

The barrel we shot was 24 inches. We suggest going with a heavy factory contour with target crown.

22-250 Remington History

Interesting History Behind the .22-250

“The .22-250 started life as a wildcat cartridge developed from the .250-3000 Savage case necked down to take a .224 caliber bullet. In the early days of the cartridge there were several different versions that varied only slightly from one to the next, including one developed in 1937 by Grosvenor Wotkyns, J. E. Gebby and J. B. Smith who named their version the 22 Varminter.”

— Wikipedia

The .22-250 Remington is a high-velocity, short action, 22 cal rifle that is most often used for varmint hunting and sometimes small game hunting as well. It can also be used on small deer occassionally too. The .22-250 cartridge has a wider use than the .220 Swift, although the Swift normally outperforms the 22-250 Remington. Due to its wider availability it is a cheaper round to shoot.
